31/365: Water Under the Bridge

French Broad River Greenway. A different perspective of I-240. The highlights and shadows were adjusted, as was the color balance.

20/365: Original

Here is the original photo from day 20. I had to lighten the graffiti reflection in the water and then took out a couple of sticks from the water. I also made parts of the graffiti in the reflection black and white so the reflection isn't an exact copy of the wall graffiti. There is a filter in Photoshop under "noise" that is called "dust & scratches" that I used to create a slight roughness to the photo. Then I fooled around with the brushes in Photoshop - I had downloaded some free brushes and used that to paint parts of the picture to give it the cracked look that sections of the photo has. It sound like work than the final result looks, but it was fun to just play around.

30/365: Berms After Berms

Warrior Creek Trail. First attempt in mountain biking shots. A lot to learn, work on, and try. We usually just ride and that's it, but this may be the year that I'll start bringing my camera with me on rides. Keeping my fingers cross that I don't crash and break the camera. Although I can't decide which is worse: me, the bike or the camera.

For whatever reason the series of photos I took on this section all came out too dark. I had to adjust the shadows a bit so you could actually see Drew.

28/365: River

French Broad River Greenway. Nothing special about this picture. But I like the lighting on the tops of the trees and the reflection. I wish there were less branches on these trees, but there's no way in hell I'm going to Photoshop them out.

27/365: Overwhelmed

River Arts District. There's just so much there to photograph. It's hard to stay away. Even after make random turns I still end up there. The contrast was increased to darken the bricks and the highlight was adjusted so that there's a slight more definition in the light coming through the top right window panes.

26/365: The Story of the Droplets

Taken from the inside of my car. I guess rainy days are good for something...

25/365: Spiralling

Greenville. Highlights and shadows adjusted. Can't decide how I feel about the white building in the background. That's a lie. I do know how I feel about it, but I what I do know how to do in Photoshop isn't enough to fix it.

24/365: Life on Stilts

West Asheville. Can you imagine living in a house that's built on stilts? I really want to knock on one of those doors and ask if I can hang out in their house for the day. Maybe I can just chill on their porch.

Obviously the colors were messed with. Really just played with the highlights, shadows and the color balance.

23/365: Forgotten About

River Arts District. This photo was cropped, colors adjusted with a kick of the "boost" button, and a leaf was removed from the edge of the photo.

21/365: Steam

Lake Julian Power Plant. I know that plant is terrible for the environmental, but I can't help think that steam coming out of the stack is beautiful. I adjusted the contrast, exposure, shadows a bit, then added a warming filter using Photoshop and a touch more red to the photo.

20/365: Tag

River Arts District. Thought I'd play with Photoshop a bit more than usual. This is the result. Won't tell just yet what I did (nothing dramatic). Enjoy it as is.

19/365: Walsh & Weidner Boiler Co.

River Arts District. Found this dilapidated warehouse that is funky as can be. Kickass!

18/365: Adieu

West Asheville. I adjusted the exposure, contrast and saturation settings to get the colors to pop. There's more noise in this photo than I am happy with and it doesn't seem to be because I played with the colors. I'm trying to decide if I need to start shooting in RAW.

18-2/365: Winter Day

NC Arboretum. Here's an untouched photo to balance things out.

17/365: On My Toes

Another one from Linville Gorge. Didn't get the chance to take any photos today, had too much fun hanging out with Hoolio.

Highlights and shadows were adjusted in this photo to balance everything out a bit more.

16/365: Verge

Linville Falls. We decided to check out Linville Falls before heading home.

15/365: Babel

Babel Tower, Linville Gorge. We decided the weather was nice enough for a backpacking trip. So snow camping it was! (I didn't get lazy and decide to skip a day.)

Lesson learned on this trip: your night photos look a lot brighter in your camera LCD when you're viewing it in the middle of the woods in the dark than at home on your laptop. So I had to brighten this photo on the laptop. Although it did seem about that bright to my eyes with an almost full moon last night.

14/365: 1963

Dunes, Oceano, California, 1963. Ansel Adams. Today's photo doesn't really count since it's a photo of his photo. I'll make up for this day when I am at Oceano and go crazy with my camera. Sadly it probably won't look like it did in 1963.

13/365: Hydrangea

It was either this or garlic. Days are still too short for me to have enough light to shoot in after work.

1/12/2011

12/365: Wilted

On the porch. Adjusted the lighting a little bit. I need to get a filter for this snow.

1/11/2011

11/365: Saint

Green Hills Cemetery. Made the colors a bit more vibrant.

10/365: 'Boarder

In honor of today's adventure: snowboarding the Blue Ridge Parkway.

1/09/2011

9/365: Feathers

Yellow Gap Trail. Cropped and took a stick out using Photoshop. Not sure how to take good snow shots. And I can't remember what this ice formation is called. It's not rime ice...

8/365: Quiet

Taken from my porch. Used a tripod and slow shutter speed.

1/07/2011

7/365: Unravel

River birch at Carrier Park. Slight tinkering with lighting. I'm also sort of assuming it's a river birch since it's by the French Broad...

6/365: Memories

River Arts District. What an incredible neighborhood. This is an attempt at photostatic flats. Only editing is cropping.

1/05/2011

5/365: Omen

Brought my camera with me this morning when I walked Tybee. Lucky that I did. I used the craquelure filter in Photoshop to add a bit more definition to the picture. The crow was already sharp.

4/365: Garden

Late afternoon walk at the NC Arboretum. Had to mess with the colors and lightening of the photo a bit because the sun was on its way out and I didn't have a tripod with me. (But I really like the composition of this photo.) Actually, the hardest edit with this photo was trying to crop it decently. Now it's ribbon shoe washing time...but worth it, Sarah.

3/365: Rusted

Old register at the Wedge. Only editing done was slight cropping. Aside from that, what you see is what you get.

2/365: Pomegranate

Photoshop was used. Since I'm totally unfamiliar with Photoshop not only did it take me a really long time to fix a section of this photo, but I'm still not happy with it. It was too bright and darkening the whole photo wouldn't have fixed the problem. So I used the clone tool. It's definitely a cool tool. But man it's a pain in the ass. I'll fool around with it more when I have time. This will have to do for now.

Fun photo. The pomegranate was colored done using a free program on Andrew's iPad.

1/365: Light Painting

Carrier Park. Night shot.

It's so much fun to use a headlamp to create your photograph. The only editing I did was a headlamp streak that was accidentally included the photo (because I stood inside the frame).
